Both the EFL and Wigan Athletic have made announcements following the club’s failure to pay players earlier this month. A three point deduction will take effect immediately due to an ‘agreed decision’ made following earlier indiscretions. A further hearing taking place to consider additional punishment reflating to this latest failure.
Whilst it is regrettable that the points deduction will impact the efforts of Shaun Maloney and his team and the hopes of supporters more than anyone else, we accept that it comes as an inevitable result of what appear to be serious financial difficulties within the club.
We await a statement from the Board and/nor Owners explaining what has led us to this situation and what plans they have to ensure we do not end up here again.
